Painting Ceramics - A Dying Art

The art of ceramics is nearly a thing of the past. The art is sadly dying and the beauty of the ceramics and figures are fading from more and more homes and basement hobby shops. However, there are still a few including myself, who refuse to let the art of ceramics; and painting these beautiful pieces of art die and fade away.

A friend of mine has a ceramics shop and I do mean a ceramics shop she has every ceramic mold you can imagine. She can create the most beautiful pieces of art out of a gallon of gray liquid called slip I have ever seen. She pours the slip into the mold and within a few hours, she removes the mold and unveils a figure. Then she lets the figure sit and dry then she takes that figure and the many others she has poured and bakes them in a specially made ceramic oven or kiln. Then when the items bake and cool she and I begin to bring the figures to life in color.

She began teaching me how to paint the figures two years ago; I was, hooked. Once I realized I could take some acrylic paints and bring a plain statue of a cougar standing on a rock mountain side to a life like picture of a real cougar standing on a rock mountain side it was truly amazing. Once I finished with the cougar, my husband then decided he loved the cougar and now the cougar is a part of the decor of our living room.

You can do so many things with each one of these pieces. Each piece takes on a new character and a sense of life like resemblances in the animal and the human figures it is hard to believe that I could actually accomplish this. Never thinking I had any talent as a painter therefore, I give all the credit to my friend who is teaching me to paint the ceramics.

Painting ceramics is therapeutic, it is calming to the nerves, and painting ceramics is a great way to get together with your friends and have coffee and catch up with each other on current family events.

The acrylic paints come in every color imaginable and can be, purchased at the local hobby shops or even at the local shopping centers.

There are pearl colors and metallic colors that bring things a completely new texture in painting.

There are too many ceramic molds to list here as well as too many makers of these, such molds, but just to give you some ideals of some of the pieces that you can display; in your home and add, as conversation pieces of art are things like. A twelve-inch statue of either a Pegasus, or a horse this mold makes both pieces. There are statues of Indian maidens, full size life like owls and eagles, there are the old water pitcher and basins. There are many types of dishes and mugs and cups. There are also all kinds of Christmas ornaments, and even ceramic Christmas trees.

Take up a new hobby and do not let these beautiful pieces of art fade away learn about painting ceramics today.

Four Steps to Flatter Abs

Many people trying to lose weight, are focused on their abs. People generally want flat abs or tight abs. Maybe you just want to feel comfortable wearing a bathing suit, or maybe you want to have abs of steel and be able to bounce a quarter off of them. Whatever your goal is, you need to focus your energies on your abs and not just weight loss. Here are four steps to not only losing weight, but having eye-catching abs.

1. Learn to lose weight. Obviously all the crunches in the world aren't going to help you if you eat two Big Mac combo meals a day. You need to burn more calories than you consume each day. Keep track of how much you eat so you know how much you need to exercise. Break down your eating schedule into six small meals a day instead of three big meals a day, or even worse, 1 to 2 huge meals a day.

2. Now for the exercise. Exercising daily is no longer an option, it is a requirement. Plan out your exercise so you have short, but intense episodes of cardiovascular exercise separated by slower endurance promoting cardiovascular exercise. For example, go jogging, but every five minutes break into a run for one minute, and then go back to a jog. This will boost your metabolism and to help you burn more calories.

3. Abdominal exercises are not designed to burn calories; they are actually a form of weight training. The goal is to tighten all the muscles in your core area. This will appear to be weight loss, but it is actually your body contracting or tightening up. Your stomach muscles can quickly recover from an intense workout so try to do some exercises several times throughout the day. Even if you are at work, you can contract your stomach muscles ten or twenty times every hour.

This is caused by excessive sodium in your system. Avoid eating foods containing sodium and never add salt to your food. You should also stop cooking with salt. Eat a banana every day to help absorb any sodium that does enter your body. Drinking lots of water will also help flush the sodium from your system. Being fully hydrated will also aid in your muscles recovering faster and your overall weight loss.

Reasons to Stop Biting Your Nails

A lot of people bite their nails without even realizing what they are doing. They bite their nails when they are anxious tired, nervous, or under a lot of stress. It is a way for them to cope. They bite their names right down to their finger tips, and then most nail biters will start biting the skin around their nails. Nail biting is a terribly disgusting habit, and one which should be broken as soon as possible.

Biting off your nails and the skin around your nails can leave you open to infections. The torn and open skin can collect bacteria. The area may get red and swollen. Children's Literature - Good Or Bad?

A caring parent knows the importance of his or her child being able to read. Some parents begin reading to the child while the child is still inside the womb. This gives the infant the security of hearing the soft tones of the mother and father's voice. Even though the child has not been born as of yet the infant is familiar with the sound, words, and soothing tone of the voice reading the literature.

Then once the child has been born and the parents read to the infant, this does help the child when he or she begins school. The child is familiar with and can recognize words, and the sounds of the letters.

It is also just as important to pick the proper Literature for the child. In this day and time, it is difficult to choose what is good or bad for the child. One-way that many parents distinguish between the good and the bad literature. Is to read a chapter or two first if the text is disturbing to you or you feel uncomfortable just reading the text. Then this literature is not a good choice for you child's library.

Parents do not want to choose children's literature that is, over, wrought with violence for a bedtime story. This will surely give any child nightmares. It is important that parents choose good literature over improper literature that can influence their children in negative ways. It is just as important to choose literature filled with the proper characters and themes or lessons for the child to follow. Some good quality literature does still exist and even if the literature does not exist or you cannot choose. Then there is an alternative to fall back on.

Some parents write down their own stories using their child as the characters. By doing this, you are placing your child into the story and letting him or her decide what they should do in certain situations. This is a perfect way to teach your children; the proper values you wish for your child to learn. This also helps the parents to discover if his or her child is developing correctly mentally.

An example: If your child is in a story and faced with helping, a friend to do something that was wrong. You ask your child what he or she would do if this if they would help the friend yes or no. If your child says yes they would help the friend then you know your child needs help distinguishing between right and wrong. It is all up to you the parent to teach your child the difference between good and bad start with their literature.
